October 15th Our first move towards living and not vacationing

Plaza de Castellana-and the two building that lean together

Yesterday we were walking in another little area in the west of our neighborhood and happened to notice a small sign offering English lessons to residents. There was an elderly gentleman in the room behind the sign and we asked If he was giving the lessons. He basically said no but his son-in-law gave lessons, so we asked if he would teach Spanish to us. He asked us to come back tomorrow at 11:30 to talk to his son-in-law. So this morning we went back and met Norm, his son-in-law and ended up making arrangements with him to take Spanish lessons from him. We will take 2 1hr lessons from him each week while we’re here at a very reasonable price. So tomorrow we go back and find out what sort of schedule we can work out. Norm worked in New York for 3 years for British Airways and then came back to Spain with his wife and children where he works full time teaching English to his Spanish clients. We think he will be a great instructor for us due to his very good English command. After our meeting we took the bus out to the modern business center of Madrid and spent the afternoon walking back along one of the major boulevards before coming back for dinner. We also passed the building that has what must be the largest Miro tile mural in the world.

  1. Glad to hear you've got Spanish lessons lined up. That should make everyday living easier and open up more of the city/country to you! Nice pics, too!
